Butt Augmentation FAQs

If you’re considering butt augmentation, you may have some questions about what to expect. Here are the answers to the most frequently asked questions about butt augmentation.

Am I a Good Candidate for Butt Augmentation?

If you have a small, flat, or sagging butt and are interested in improving its shape, you may be a candidate for butt augmentation surgery. To qualify, you should have a desire for improvement with realistic expectations. Candidates need to be at least 18 years old and in good health. You should also have enough fat from other areas of your body to be harvested for the procedure. Any interested individuals should meet with Dr. Scroggins to discuss their options for butt augmentation.

What Is the Procedure Like?

Depending on your unique needs, this procedure can be performed in the surgeon’s office surgical suite or in a nearby hospital. Dr. Scroggins performs butt augmentation using the fat transfer technique, typically with the patient under general anesthesia. First, he will perform liposuction on your abdomen, hips, thighs, or other areas to harvest the excess fat. The extracted fat is purified, and Dr. Scroggins will then strategically inject these fat cells into your buttocks to improve the shape and size. The surgery is entirely customized for the patient’s desires and anatomy.

How Do I Prepare for the Procedure?

During your consultation with Dr. Scroggins, he will go over all the details regarding how to prepare for the procedure. You will need to inform him of any medications you are taking and any medical conditions you have. If you smoke, stop smoking at least two weeks before the procedure. You may also need to stop taking certain medications or supplements and acquire others for your recovery period. You will need to plan for someone to drive you home from the procedure.

Are There Any Risks or Side Effects With Butt Augmentation?

As with any surgery, there are some risks and side effects associated with butt augmentation. These may include adverse reactions to anesthesia, bleeding, blood clots, infections, and asymmetry. However, with fat injections, there is no foreign material or implant to which the body may negatively respond. Dr. Scroggins can answer all your specific questions about the potential side effects and risks.

What Will Recovery Be Like?

After surgery, you will be given a special compression undergarment to wear for one week to help your body heal. Some patients may need to stay in the hospital overnight or longer to recover. You may experience some pain or discomfort that should ultimately subside in a few days. Swelling will subside within a few weeks. While some patients can return to work within a few days, most patients return to work within one to two weeks. You may be able to resume many normal activities within a short time, but you should avoid exercise and strenuous activities for six weeks.

How Long Until Results Are Visible?

Results are visible immediately after the procedure but may be difficult to decipher due to swelling. The full results will become more noticeable within a few weeks after the majority of swelling goes down.

Do the Results Look Natural?

Butt augmentation with the fat transfer technique will appear natural and provide subtle enhancement to the shape and size of your buttocks. The improvements to your butt will give you a curvier body shape.

What Can Fat Transfer Enhance?

Fat is a critical part of the human body and plays an essential role in building cell membranes, making your skin healthy, and protecting all your vital organs. Despite its benefits, fat is not very well-liked. Nonetheless, it provides cosmetic benefits as well as health benefits. The soft curves of the body and the youthful curves of the face are in large part due to body fat. In the cosmetic surgery industry, the fat transfer technique can enhance specific parts of your body using your own body fat so that you look beautiful and youthful.

How Fat Transfer Works

The fat transfer procedure has two parts. First, the surgeon conducts liposuction to extract fat cells from unwanted areas such as the abdomen, hips, thighs, or flanks. Then, the fat cells are injected into the target area. The grafted fat enhances the target area to add softness and curves.

Enhancing Your Face and Buttocksattractive woman looking in mirror

Dr. Carlton H. Scroggins offers the fat transfer technique to enhance the face and the buttocks. In the buttocks, fat transfer adds fullness and softness for a rounder, more pleasing shape. In the face, the grafted fat cells can add volume and reduce the lines and wrinkles caused by aging. By injecting fat into thinning, sagging, or wrinkled areas, these facial features are smoothed and filled out, contributing to a more youthful, smooth, and soft appearance.

Advantages of Fat Transfer

Fat transfer offers many benefits and advantages:

  • More slender body contours: Unwanted body fat is removed from areas that do not respond to exercise or dieting.
  • Body contouring and enhancement: The surgeon strategically injects fat cells to enhance specific body parts according to the patient’s desires.
  • Reduced appearance of facial aging: Fat transfer adds fullness and softness to effectively reduce the appearance of facial aging.
  • Long-lasting results: The results are long lasting to permanent when the patient maintains a healthy body weight.
  • Natural-looking results: While facial implants, synthetic fillers, and body implants can also shape the body, these may look unnatural. With fat transfer, the results look natural and youthful.
  • Immediate results: The results from facial fat transfer are immediately visible. For butt lift patients, results are visible in only a few weeks.
  • Reduced risk of complications: Many cosmetic surgery complications are caused by the injection of foreign material. Injecting the patient’s own fat cells greatly reduces the chance of infection or complications.
  • Customized procedure: Fat transfer is completely customized to match the patient’s anatomy and desires.
  • Limited scarring: Rather than long incision scars from inserting implants, fat transfer scars are limited to the small, inconspicuous incisions made for the microcannulas for liposuction.
  • Single treatment: In most cases, fat transfer requires only one treatment session. Synthetic fillers typically require regular repeat sessions, and implants may need to be replaced over time. This makes it more convenient and more economical for you over time.

With fat transfer, you can have improved body contours and a softer, more youthful face. To schedule your complimentary fat transfer consultation with Dr. Scroggins, call (301) 220-0400 or fill out our online contact form.

Dangers of Silicone Butt Injections

Dangers of Silicone InjectionsOn Monday, March 9, 2015, Philadelphia resident Padge Victoria Windslowe was found guilty of third-degree murder in the death of Claudia Aderotimi. The woman died after Windslowe injected her with silicone that she claimed would increase the size of the woman’s buttocks. Windslowe is not a trained or licensed physician, yet she still performed the procedure on several young women in airport hotel rooms. Another woman treated by Windslowe suffered from a pulmonary embolism and is lucky to be alive. (Read the whole article here).

Windslowe is one of the many people who take advantage of uneducated people looking for quick beauty fixes. There has become an increased popularity of “pumping parties.” At these events, men and women (with very limited medical knowledge, if any) inject each other with liquid silicone to achieve body enhancement. In many instances, the silicone is industrial grade and not intended for medical use.

Dangers of Silicone Injections

  • Silicone injections are not FDA approved.
  • Uncontained silicone in the body can migrate to the lungs or brain, causing death.
  • Silicone injections often cause inflammation, skin infections, granulomas, soft tissue atrophy, and disfigurement.
  • Silicone can cause a staph infection, which leads to tissue death.
    • To stop the spread of tissue death, the affected areas need to be amputated.
  • Silicone hardens and causes severe pain and discomfort.
  • The process to have silicone removed involves multiple surgical procedures that don’t ensure a 100 percent recovery rate.
    • These surgeries often aren’t covered by insurance because they are a cosmetic surgery complication.

Dangers of Non-Professionals

There are many cases where buying cheap, off-brand products to save a buck is great. Drug-store makeup, DIY face masks, self tanning, and many other cheaper alternatives are fine to have as part of your beauty routine. What you shouldn’t skimp on is a highly delicate medical procedure. Plastic surgery is just that – surgery. Hopefully you wouldn’t let an untrained, unlicensed person operate on your knee or heart, and you shouldn’t let one perform your plastic surgery. You should never have a procedure performed that isn’t:

  • In a sterile hospital or medical setting
  • Performed by a licensed nurse, surgeon, or dermatologist
  • Performed by someone with extensive years of experience and knowledge

When choosing a doctor for your medical procedure, you should ask lots of questions and do your research. You should feel comfortable and confident with the surgeon you choose. Feel free to ask about:

  • Before and after pictures
  • Client referrals
  • Documents of their licensing
  • Their education and experience

Fat Transfer for Butt Augmentation

Of all body parts that people focus on, it’s the buttocks that often garners the most attention. For some individuals, making sure their buttocks is round and shapely has even become somewhat of an obsession. However, not everyone is naturally blessed with a curvy backside.

While diet and exercise have produced results for some, others are unable to obtain a derrière they are satisfied with. If you’re having trouble getting the type of buttocks you desire, Dr. Carlton Scroggins offers a cosmetic procedure known as a butt lift, commonly known as the “Brazilian Butt Lift,” to effectively improve the volume and shape of your butt.

Dr. Scroggins performs a butt lift by removing collagen and fat cells from areas of the body where these tissues exist in excess, and, once they are purified, he strategically injects them into the buttocks. This procedure provides immediate results with minimal downtime and long-lasting results.

In addition to improving the appearance of the buttocks, a butt lift can also help:

  • Restore youth (both physically and emotionally)
  • Look better in clothing
  • Improve self-confidence

Restore Youth

As you’ve aged, your skin has likely began to wrinkle and sag due to a loss of elasticity. The buttocks experiences perhaps the most dramatic change in this regard. A butt lift can can restore firmness and improve the butt shape by increasing the volume and the amount of collagen in the buttocks.

Look Better in Clothing

From tight-fitting clothes to bathing suits, the butt plays a major role in overall attractiveness. A butt lift makes the buttocks fuller and more prominent in any type of clothing.

Improve Self-Confidence

Having an attractive butt generally makes people feel more attractive. After undergoing a butt lift, many patients are amazed at how confident they feel with their new look.

More Americans Are Getting Brazilian Butt Lifts

woman's buttWomen like Beyoncé, Kim Kardashian, and Jennifer Lopez have no doubt played a role in the average American woman’s desire to have the “perfect” voluptuous butt. In fact, the number of Americans who have chosen to enhance the size and shape of their butt with cosmetic surgery has increased significantly over the last few years.

In the past, butt implants were the only option for buttock augmentation, but now men and women alike can enlarge and perfect their rear ends with a less invasive option: the Brazilian Butt Lift.

What Is the Brazilian Butt Lift?

The Brazilian Butt Lift works by removing fat from an area of the body where fat is plenteous, such as the thighs or abdomen, with liposuction. This unwanted fat is then purified and injected back into the patient’s buttocks to contour and smooth the shape and enhance the size. The degree of augmentation depends on the patient’s desires as well as the amount of fat the patient has in the donor area(s). Unlike butt augmentation with implants, the Brazilian Butt Lift uses much smaller incisions, which are made during the liposuction phase of the procedure. This results in a quicker recovery and shorter scars that typically fade with time.

Why Is the Brazilian Butt Lift So Popular?

Last year’s statistics from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons reveal that the Brazilian Butt Lift has shown a 16 percent increase from the previous year, with close to 10,000 procedures performed in 2013. Because of the increasing demand for the procedure, more doctors have received training to perform it, which has made this procedure even more accessible to the average American.
